The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces 1958-1964

Led the 1958 Coup, and became the first Army Officer to assume power in the Sudan; and Head of State (1958-1964).

The formation of the First Supreme Council, in 1958, was as follows, in November 1958:

1-    Sayed / Lt. General / Ibrahim Abboud.

2-    Sayed / Maj. General / Ahmed Abdel Wahab.

3-    Sayed / Maj. General / Mohamed Talaat Fareed.

4-    Sayed / Brigadier / Hassan Bashir Nasr.

5-    Sayed / Brigadier / Mohamed Ahmed Irwa.

6-    Sayed / Brigadier / Ahmed Rida Fareed.

7-    Sayed / Brigadier / Ahmed Magzoub Al-Bahary.

8-    Sayed / Brigadier / Ahmed Abdalla Hamid.

9-    Sayed / Brigadier / Awad Abdel Rahman Sogheyer.

10-  Sayed / Brigadier / Mohamed Ahmed El-Tigani.

11-  Sayed / Lt. Colonel / Hussien Ali Karrar.

The following amendments were effected on the membership of the Council:

The dismissal of:

1-Sayed / Lt. Gen. / Ahmed Abdel Wahab.

2- Sayed / Brigadier / Awad Abdel Rahman Sughagyer.

3-Sayed / Brigadier / Ahmed Abdalla Hamid.

4-Sayed / Brigadier / Mohamed Ahmed Al-Tigani.

5-Sayed / Lt. Col. / Hussien Ali Karrar (Secretary of the Council).

The Appointment of:

1-Sayed / Maj. Gen. / Muhi el-Din Ahmed Abdalla.

2-Sayed / Brigadier / Abdel Rahim Mohamed Kheir Shannan.

3-Sayed / Brigadier / Magboul Al-Amin Al-Haj (Secretary of the Council).

By 1960, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, in its final form, was as follows:

1-Sayed / Lt. Gen. / Ibrahim Abboud.
