Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abie Ahmed, current President of the IGAD commended the efforts by President Omar Al-Bashir and leaders of the Organization Member States to achieve peace in the state of South Sudan.
Abie Ahmed said at the opening session of the extraordinary summit of the IGAD that leadership role the high wisdom of President Al-Bashir and his patience and perseverance led the parties of South Sudan to the agreement and pushing them towards the final signing of the peace and reconciliation agreement.
He added that the agreement shows the ability of the African countries to achieve peace in the continent by finding solutions to African conflicts.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister called on the IGAD countries to do something on the economy and solving economic problems and create job opportunities for young people and the promotion of investment and trade relations.
The Executive Secretary of IGAD in his speech commended the efforts of President Al-Bashir and Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni and Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta in reaching an agreement for peace and reconciliation in South Sudan.
The representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations praised theefforts made by President Al-Bashir over the past months and described the agreement as the important step in the right direction.
The representative of the African Union, Ismail Al-Shargi expressed his thanks to President Al-Bashir and the leaders of IGAD in reaching the final peace agreement in South Sudan and said that the Horn of Africa is witnessing significant shifts and must take advantage of this dynamic in promoting peace in the region.
Also the representatives of the troika, European Union and China spoke at the opening session, stressing their support for the agreement and urged South Sudan parties to abide by it and translate it to reality.
